New Murder On Space Station 52 Dev Diary Shows How Unique Art Makes It From Pen To Pixel

Solo developer Made From Strings and publisher Dionous Games have today released a new developer diary for their “Agatha Christie In Space” murder mystery coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, Murder On Space Station 52. In the video, developer Christopher Mathes takes a deep dive into the game’s art, showing off his hand-drawn inkwork and the iterative process of bringing the art from black and white on paper, to the full color art-deco-sci-fi environments you see in the game. Find out about the game’s artistic inspirations, how Christopher created the unique characters that will be the suspects you will investigate in the game, and more.

In Murder On Space Station 52, you play as Edward Locke. The new repairman finds himself trapped on a strange space station filled with even stranger people, including one with a penchant for leaving dead bodies lying around with keys in their wounds. Edward soon finds himself filling out a murder board with suspects as he tries to draw connections and figure out which of them is the Keychain Killer.

The game’s murder mystery investigation draws on classic adventure game mechanics with its point and click puzzles, while also offering a modern touch thanks to in-game currency that you earn as you explore, allowing you to customize your apartment and fill an aquarium with an array of strange and curious creatures. It’s all on show in the dev commentary video and you can delve further into the richly conceived world of Space Station 52, get a taste of its rip-roaring, blues-inspired soundtrack and fully voiced cast of charismatic characters in the game’s announcement trailer.

I've been an avid gamer since I stumbled upon ZORK running in my local Radio Shack in 1980. Ten years later I was working for Sierra Online. Since then I've owned nearly every game system and most of the games to go with them. Not sure if 40+ years of gaming qualifies me to write reviews, but I do it anyway.
