Void Crew Early Access Review – PC

This is an Early Access Review and as such opinions are based solely on the state of the game at the time of review and subject to change as development progresses leading up to final release.

In the ever-expanding universe of gaming, there is always room for exploration and discovery. The anticipation surrounding the release of Void Crew, a highly anticipated co-op space action-adventure game, has been steadily growing. With Starcraft taking on the role of solo space exploration, Void Crew takes on the task of giving their take on the multiplayer space adventure. Needless to say, it goes beyond expectations. Developed by Danish indie studio Hutlihut Games and published by Focus Entertainment, Void Crew offers players an unparalleled sense of freedom and adventure in the vastness of the cosmos. With early access out now and a road map to 1.0 release available, there is a lot to currently enjoy with more to come.

In Void Crew, humanity faces a mysterious threat known as the Hollow. As one of the chosen few, players and their crew of up to four mavericks must venture into the void and restore order to the galaxy. The game’s immersive storyline and captivating visuals transport players into a world where cooperation is not just an option, but a necessity. Strategic prowess and effective communication are key as players navigate the challenges of deep space and work together to reclaim humanity’s lost territory.

Maneuvering the spaceship is just the beginning of the thrilling gameplay in Void Crew. Players can take on various roles within the crew, from piloting the ship to manning the turrets and performing emergency repairs. The game’s dynamic job system ensures that each player has a unique role to play, fostering a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. Additionally, players can utilize space station weaponry, fabricate munitions, and embark on extravehicular missions. Whether it’s patching up the ship hull or scavenging derelict wrecks, every action contributes to the immersive experience of this cosmic adventure. Not since the old Battlefront 2 have I ever enjoyed space fights as much as I have with Void Crew

Void Crew is beautifully made up. Ship designs are one of the more well-done aspects that allows players to customize internal components such as shields and canons, but keep the outer esthetics clean and futuristic. Player designs give homage to Destiny with a bit of realism and the ability to earn upgrades and complete missions in style. Audio isn’t lacking either in Void Crew. Space can begin eerily quiet, but immediately be full with swarms of enemy ships and endless crossfires. There were moments of sheer panic as lasers whizzed past me as I flew to my ship as quickly as possible. Once I made it back to the airlock, I was greeted with the sounds becoming more intense. Adding more ferocity to the fighting and the need for a good crew.

One huge drawback is one of Void Crew’s biggest features which is coop. I tried to do a couple of solo expeditions and quickly learned that it is a lot harder and seems almost impossible. Void Crew was intended to be played with multiple people in mind as several tasks need to be done at once. From commanding the ship, manning the canons, or completing a task outside of the ship such as exploring a station, or repairing the ship’s hull. With every instance I went solo, I failed because I could not for the life of me balance all of the roles needed to complete the mission.

One of the standout features of Void Crew is the ability to customize your spacecraft. This feature allows players to make groundbreaking discoveries and face off against formidable extraterrestrial foes and determined human adversaries. The game offers a range of customization options, from stylish spacesuits to rich upgrades, allowing players to personalize their characters and enhance their abilities. This level of customization adds depth to the gameplay experience and encourages players to develop unique strategies as they navigate the vastness of space.

Void Crew is not just a game; it’s a community-driven project that values player feedback and involvement. The developers actively seek input from players to improve the game through regular updates and patches. Players can join the official Void Crew Discord community, where they can share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences with fellow gamers. This active involvement in the game’s development ensures that Void Crew evolves into something truly extraordinary before its official 1.0 release. Not only are they giving the players a voice, but they are also giving a sneak peek into the future of Void Crew, with an early access roadmap that has been shared with the community.

The roadmap outlines the upcoming updates and improvements planned for the game. The first update is set to introduce new weapons, enemies, and cosmetics, enhancing the gameplay experience. The second update will focus on addressing community feedback to ensure that player concerns and suggestions are considered. The third release will expand the game with new objectives, ship loadouts, and exciting events. Subsequent updates will introduce customization options and challenging boss battles, adding depth and variety to the gameplay.

In conclusion, Void Crew is poised to make a significant impact in the gaming world. With its immersive storyline, captivating visuals, and emphasis on cooperative gameplay, this co-op space action-adventure game offers players a unique and thrilling experience. The ability to customize spacecraft, the community-driven development approach, and the exciting roadmap of updates make Void Crew a game to watch out for. So, gather your crew, set your course for uncharted galaxies, and prepare for epic journeys beyond the stars with Void Crew, the cosmic adventure that awaits you.

  1. Hello there! My name is Togriks, I’ve played the game a few times now, and can easily say this game is really good. I love that it’s reminiscent of Sea of Thieves, but in space. One thing that I’ve had a hard time with is ship customization. Primarily speaking on the inability to move or replace preset modules on the ship, like the cannons, or the BRAIN turrets. It makes creating a unique and efficient vessel difficult, as you have to work around what’s already there. I can understand this position for new players, but as we’ve learned what we like and what we need, it would be great to move ALL of the ship modules. Another thing, it would be awesome for the ship to stay persistent, so when you exit back to the Headquarters you’re not having to start all over again and again. For example, let’s say you add a shield generator to a vessel that doesn’t come with one. After a mission, you lose it. That makes it worthless to have. However I understand that the game is still relatively new, and also understand you guys are working hard at a new game. But I figured I’d leave some feedback to maybe contribute to upcoming updates to better the experience for all players. Thanks for taking the time to read my feedback!
