Iko and The Pixel Hunt, co-producers, and ARTE France, co-producer and publisher, are proud to announce that their video game Inua: A Story in Ice and Time is now available on Steam and Nintendo Switch for €14.99/$14.99/£13.49 and on iOS and Android for €4.99/$4.99.
During the 19th century, the Franklin expedition disappeared without a trace on its way to explore the Arctic. What happened to the two ships and the 130 men of the crew?
Inspired by this true event, Inua: A Story in Ice and Time tells the story of Taïna, Peter and Simon, three characters separated by centuries but whose destinies are linked.
Simon is a sailor on the expedition. When his ship is trapped in the ice, he decides to do everything in his power to save the crew and joins a group of Inuit to try and reach the South.
Peter is a filmmaker traveling with a Canadian army patrol in the middle of the Cold War to investigate a mysterious meteorite.
Lastly, Taïna is a 2016 journalist covering the exploration of the wreck of the Terror, one of the expedition’s ships.
The player will have to guide these characters through time and space, navigating between eras to discover what links them together.
“It’s a singular, open-ended narrative, with multiples the levels of interpretation: three characters lost in the great Canadian north, spanning three eras, interconnected in a dense lore, inspired by historical events (the Franklin expedition) and Inuit spirituality” explains Igal Kohen, Inua’s executive producer.
As a point and click narrative game, Inua: A Story in Ice and Time invites the players to explore different scenes that take place several decades apart. Digging through these scenes allows them to discover ideas called “tokens” that they can inject into the minds of characters, making them perform new actions that will change the course of events.
Inuit spirituality is also at the heart of Inua’s story.
Created by Natalie Frassoni and Frédéric Bouvier, the original story of Inua was adapted in collaboration with Inuit author Thomassie Mangiok and consultants Monica Ittusardjuat and Billy Gauthier to ensure its authenticity.
“The game is about people who venture in an unknown world and make the mistake of not listening to the warnings they’re given. But as creators, it seemed essential to us to involve members of the Inuit community to represent this world with fidelity and respect.” says Florent Maurin, co-producer of the project.
