Star Wars Pinball: Star Wars Rebels Review – Xbox One/PS4

You know, I was expecting some new Star Wars themed pinball tables from Zen Studios but not until later this year, closer to the movie release.  I had completely forgotten about the Star Wars Rebels animated series, but thankfully, those pinball wizards over at Zen Studios hadn’t.   Borrowing heavily on the themes of the Disney XD show, their latest table design returns us once again to a galaxy far, far away.

Climb aboard the starship Ghost and join your favorite characters; Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Zeb Orrelios, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla and Chopper as they do battle with the Empire, complete with 3D fully animated models of characters, ships, and some of the best pinball tables design of recent memory.   This table is a pure delight to play with so many things to do, including character-specific challenges; each game will be totally fresh and exciting no matter how many times you restart the game.

You can see the game in action in our live gameplay video:

The flipper geometry is perfect for shooting the ball up any of the chutes and ramps, and the top flipper is placed just right for launching the ball up into the Ghost.  There are fun challenges and mini-levels, often introduced by excellent voice work and slick 3D animated characters darting about the table surface.  You can select character specific challenges that will have you using Chopper to repair the damaged ship, activate a turret defense to fight off Tie Fighters, or even trigger a Stormtrooper shooting gallery just to name a few.

There is a great multi-ball experience that allows you to actually choose to try and add additional balls to the insanity at the risk of losing the chance to play the ones you already have locked. Star Wars Rebels was also one of the few tables where the “nudge” mechanic actually seemed to work, so I wasn’t losing nearly as many balls down the side lanes.

Star Wars Pinball: Star Wars Rebels is a fantastic tribute for fans of the show, and simply a great pinball table design for pinball lovers who may not even be familiar with the Disney series.   I had a blast playing this new table and look forward to adding it to my weekly rotation and competitive tournaments.  As always, you can share the game with local multiplayer and compete in the online tournaments or just try claim your spot at the top of the leaderboard…right below my name of course.

Zen Studios keeps cranking out great tables, making Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX2 two of the best console marketplace games you can own, each offering countless hours of challenging and addictive fun with a continually expanding library of content for their respective systems.    Available now  on PC, mobile and most all the consoles, Star Wars Rebels is definitely a table you’ll want to add to your collection, and of course…

May the Force Be With You…Always.

I've been an avid gamer since I stumbled upon ZORK running in my local Radio Shack in 1980. Ten years later I was working for Sierra Online. Since then I've owned nearly every game system and most of the games to go with them. Not sure if 40+ years of gaming qualifies me to write reviews, but I do it anyway.
