Honey Badger Don’t Care Back in January of 2011 began another unusual case of a YouTube video going “viral”. That was when “The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger” pseudo nature documentary went online. As with most absurdly popular videos, all it took was a few posts on Facebook and Twitter and suddenly a guy named “Randall” was the most popular nature video narrator in the history of ever. It may sound boring, but add the fact that “Randall” sounds like a flamboyantly gay man with a talent for descriptive colorful language, and you’ve got an internet sensation that can easily be turned into a million bucks. Well, at least a couple hundred bucks. .99 cents at a time. In yet another story of someone capitalizing on sudden internet fame, along came videos of other animals, a Honey Badger sound/ringtone app, a book, and the “Honey Badger Don’t Care” iPhone game app. Now don’t misunderstand, I about fell off my chair laughing when I first saw the video and my friends and I used one-liners from it for months. But it got old and the other videos were not as funny. So I had to roll my eyes when I heard the iPhone app was coming. Surprisingly, “Honey Badger Don’t Care” is a fairly well done (though simple) game with decent graphics and even cruder but hilarious narration from Randall. If you are old enough to have played the Atari 2600, you probably are familiar with Activision games such as Stampede, Grand Prix, and other side-scrollers, and Honey Badger Don’t Care will seem incredibly familiar. You of course play a Honey Badger…a hungry Honey Badger, so you walk and run through the desert each day and eat scorpions, mice, honey, cobras, and slap the other animals as they try to take your food. Occasionally you get bitten by cobras and will fall asleep. You have to keep eating things to stay alive and survive until the end of the day where you fight a bigger “boss” snake. As the days go on, other hazards come up and bigger and more numerous foes. The entire time, Randall provides his unique brand of R rated narration. There are a couple of new phrases but for the most part it’s the same as the original YouTube video. The iPhone app is censored with audio bleeps and *** over the subtitles. The app is available in censored and uncensored versions on the Android. The game also includes links to Randall’s YouTube videos and his website where you can buy his book, ringtones and other items. Isn’t capitalism great? “Honey Badger Don’t Care” is iOS Game Center enabled with leaderboards and plenty of achievements. Some of the achievements are goal oriented like “don’t eat mice until day 3” but the majority of them are simply racking up the numbers of “eating 50 cobras” and other things that happen during the run of play. Most of them are easily accomplished as long as you have the time to rack up numbers. “Honey Badger Don’t Care” is a fairly standard side-scroller game with the unique narration of Randall. If you find his humor funny, you will probably enjoy this game for a laugh or two. At .99 cents it’s a cheap and silly distraction for these winter months. Screenshots ![]() ![]()
