MechWarrior 5 Destruction Trailer + Details + MechWarrior Online ‘Solaris’ Launch Trailer

The launch of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries grows ever-closer with each passing month. As such, the developers of this classic series have released new details and action-packed footage showcasing the full-on destruction that you can cause when you jump in to pilot your mech in December.

Additionally, from the MechWarrior Online team at Piranha Games comes the long-awaited “Solaris” launch this week, and information is included about that massive, expansion-level mode below.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries:

While there has been damage of sorts featured in past MechWarrior games, none have extended the destructibility feature to the extent of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. And having played various builds of the game to date, I can attest that blowing shit up in a giant robot FEELS REALLY FREAKING GOOD.

TYPES OF DESTRUCTION:

MECH DAMAGE: Mechs will take damage to various parts, including limbs – and depending on what has been damaged on your mech will vastly affect how you can perform in battle. If your leg is destroyed you may not have the stamina or speed to get back to your dropship in time, for example.

ENVIRONMENT DAMAGE: Environments can cause damage as much as an environment can absorb damage. If you are on a hot planet and running a larger/quick-to-overhead mech build, you will be able to deal far less damage to your enemies. Additionally, in both urban and natural environments you will have the ability to use buildings, certain rock formations and trees as cover but all of it is destructible – so if getting at enemy mechs means taking down a skyscraper, THEN BY ALL MEANS…

ENEMY AI DAMAGE: MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will feature numerous forms of enemy AI infantry and combat vehicles and helicopters designed to defend and protect bases, forts, mines or resources. Taking them out will require precision aim and a penchant for knowing which types of ammo and weaponry work best to deal with smaller but deadly and hostile units.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries launches this December. It is the first single-player MechWarrior game in more than two decades. Featuring co-op, full modding support and a campaign with replayability in mind, you will navigate your band of rogue pilots and crew into one of the more feared, respected and coveted lance’s (unit) in the Inner Sphere. MechWarrior Online:

MECHWARRIOR ONLINE SOLARIS 7 LAUNCH

Also happening this week is the long-awaited Solaris patch for the ongoing and successful MechWarrior Online. The Solaris update brings expansion-level content to MechWarrior Online, which serves as a persistent online game for MechWarrior pilots around the world.

Solaris 7 launch turns MechWarrior pilots into gladiators, pitting 1v1 and 2v2 battles in game for glory, currency and reputation – and it’s all built with an epic spectator mode so you can watch the world’s best pilots absolutely annihilate the ever-loving shit out of each other. It’s the distant future on far-away planets, and this is the best sporting event in the galaxy. And one of the mechs in this trailer has a freaking mohawk so CMON.

I've been an avid gamer since I stumbled upon ZORK running in my local Radio Shack in 1980. Ten years later I was working for Sierra Online. Since then I've owned nearly every game system and most of the games to go with them. Not sure if 40+ years of gaming qualifies me to write reviews, but I do it anyway.
