Devolver Digital Explores Ape Out’s Action-Reactive Jazz Soundtrack in New Video

To celebrate Ape Out’s recent critically-acclaimed debut on PC and Switch, Devolver Digital today shares a detailed video exemplifying how the havoc players are wrecking influences the game’s fantastically dynamic backing percussion.

Ape Out’s ingenious audio design led by Matt Boch, formerly a creative director at Harmonix and currently an NYU Game Center Associate Professor, ensures that no two rampages ever sound the same. The game pulls from thousands of drum samples to react specifically to a player’s choices as well as peaks of tension, giving a distinct flair to every breakout which keeps fresh attempts as exhilarating as the game’s core of brutal action.

Ape Out is available now for Nintendo Switch and PC via apeout.com.

I've been an avid gamer since I stumbled upon ZORK running in my local Radio Shack in 1980. Ten years later I was working for Sierra Online. Since then I've owned nearly every game system and most of the games to go with them. Not sure if 40+ years of gaming qualifies me to write reviews, but I do it anyway.
